Lyubov Zhyznomirska is an Associate Professor of Political Science at Saint Mary's University. Dr. Zhyznomirska is a scholar of European studies and migration studies, and her research is situated at the intersection of Comparative Politcs and International Relations. In the Department, Lyubov teaches comparative politics courses on international migration, nations and nationalism, politics of the European Union, and politics of development. She regularly supervises undergraduate Honours’ students in the areas of her scholarly interests. Prior to joining Saint Mary's, Dr. Zhyznomirska was a Jean Monnet Post-Doctoral Fellow at the European University Institute in Florence, Italy.
Dr. Zhyznomirska's research interests include such issues as democratization processes in Ukraine, regional migration governance, irregular migration, forced displacement, citizenship and belonging, foreign policy and security studies, with the specialization in the European Union, Ukraine, and Russia. Her current research project examines the reception of war-displaced Ukrainians in Canada, the United Kingdom and Germany through a comparative lens. She has published in Comparative European Politics, edited collections on the EU’s relations with its Eastern neighbourhood countries, and she co-edited (with A. Weinar and S. Bonjour) The Routledge Handbook of the Politics of Migration in Europe (Routledge, 2019).

· Dr. Zhyznomirska is currently involved in two research projects funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC):
“The Experiences of Displaced Ukrainians with Settlement and Integration in Nova Scotia” ( a one-year Partnership Development Grant). Dr. Zhyznomirska is a principal investigator on this project, in partnership with the colleagues Dr. C. Bryan and Dr. R. Bejan, both from the School of Social Work, Dalhousie University. This is a partnership project with a local partner YMCA of Greater Halifax-Dartmouth Area.
"“The Impact of Temporary Status on the Settlement Experience of Newcomer Ukrainian Youth in Canada Arriving under the Canada-Ukraine Authorization for Emergency Travel (CUAET) Visa” (a 4 year SSHRC Insight grant), co-applicant on the project led by principal investigator Dr. Michael Ungar, Resilience Research Centre, School of Social Work, Dalhousie University.
My current research is focused on forced human displacement in Ukraine and out of Ukraine and the demographic challenges of post-war societies.
