Sample Preparation Tools
EMC ancillary facilities are available to assist users with specimen preparation. These facilities include sputter coater and carbon coater for non-conductive SEM specimens.
Normally, SEM requires that the sample to be conductive. Insulated sample should be coated with a thin film of metal (normally gold) or carbon so that the electrons do not charge the sample and fuzz up the view.
Wide variety of preparation techniques may be employed and users are welcomed to consult with EMC staff for advice on suitable methods for a given material or type of sample
