Biographical Sketch
Adjunct Professor Simon Fraser UniversityB.Sc. (Acadia University) Ph.D. (Dalhousie University)
Dr. Jason Clyburne holds a Canada Research Chair in Environmental Science and Materials at Saint Mary’s University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. He obtained a B.Sc. (Honours) in Chemistry from Acadia University and a Ph.D. in Inorganic Chemistry from Dalhousie University. Post-graduation, he joined the research group of Professor Alan Cowley (FRS) at the University of Texas at Austin, where he examined the coordination chemistry of main group elements. In addition to his Canada Research Chair at Saint Mary’s University, Dr. Clyburne holds the position of adjunct professor at Simon Fraser University, where he received a Faculty Award in 2004. Dr. Clyburne has served with the Natural Sciences and Engineering Council of Canada in a variety of roles and is currently the Section Co-Chair of the Inorganic Chemistry Evaluation Group. His area of research is wide but deals mostly with inorganic and organic materials as they apply to green chemistry, including catalysis and acid gas capture. The chemistry of N-heterocyclic carbenes and ionic liquids play key roles in his research.
